The owners, Oskana Higgins et Vasili Platunovwere charged with animal cruelty and jailed pending trial.
It took a whole night for the team of the Desert Haven Animal Society to evacuate all Caucasian Shepherd dogs.
At the same time, evidence of neglect and abuse was collected by law enforcement at the 2 breeding sites.
Abused and neglected doggies
The Caucasian Shepherds were sold for 2,800 euros. However, their state of health was deplorable. They suffered from malnutrition, were infested with parasites and had skin wounds.
At the end of April 2022, the association had already seized more than a dozen canines in poor condition detained in cramped cages. An adult specimen of this breed normally weighs between 65 and 90 kilograms, and these did not reach the 30 kilogram mark.
“The worst case is only 17 kilograms”lamented Beth KakavuliasGeneral Manager of the Desert Haven Animal Societyat KTNV.
A total of 13 investigators have worked together to bring charges against the owners after police received a dozen reports since 2019.
“This investigation will continue for the next few days and it is expected that several additional charges will be added”added Beth.

At the same time, the associations pamper the dogs. Veterinarians treat the animals physically while volunteers take care of putting them back on their feet mentally.
Babies will be offered for adoption as soon as their health record is up to date. For this, they must be sterilized, identified and vaccinated.
The adults, on the other hand, free themselves from their difficult past before leaving for new adventures.
