A colony of unsterilized dogs has proliferated on a man’s property. When he died, an association was commissioned to take care of canines in bad shape. However, the cost of care is undermining his financial health.











The pet shelter Paws of Chinook was contacted by the county pound Blanein the State ofIdaho to United Statesso that it integrates in its premises about thirty dogs.

Indeed, a man residing in the area had recently lost his life, leaving his canines alone on his property.

The rescue turned out to be complicated. Some specimens had not interacted with humans for a long time.

The volunteers therefore waited until nightfall so that it would be less hot and placed sausages and cold cuts inside a horse trailer. The hungry doggies climbed into the trailer without complaining.

A deplorable state of health

In total, the members of the association PAWS of Chinook captured 22 dogs including 6 puppies, mainly Golden Retriever – Welsh Corgi Pembroke crosses as well as a couple of Border Collies.

They were covered in fleas and suffered from injuries related to fights, probably because of the lack of food on site. A second rescue is planned soon to catch the remaining doggies.

The director of the shelter, Alissa Hewitttold 3KRTV to be distraught: “Food is our main concern. We do not receive any government assistance. Without private donations, we do not exist. And adding 22 dogs overnight is a significant cost”.

The woman and her team are not giving up, however. The group has set up an online kitty so that the community can contribute to veterinary costs and organizes food donation campaigns with local residents.

A local pet store played the game by offering a gift card for a substantial amount which will allow the purchase not only of kibble, but also of accessories (collars and leashes, baskets, toys, etc.).

The canids are now in a safe place and are relearning to live among humans thanks to the benevolence of volunteers. As soon as the veterinarian issues their certificate of good health, they will be offered for adoption.

“Many dogs that have been rescued are not aggressive, but have lacked social interaction”clarified Underneath.
