Is it perhaps a fungus responsible for the unusual phenomenon? Is it because the kitten was intubated? Or is it a side effect of antibiotics specifically for Sphynx cats?
The post published in the Facebook group of veterinarians I love Veterinary Medicine is racking up numerous comments filled with perplexity.
But what happened?
The incredible but at the same time reassuring thing is that the kitten is fine. If only there wasn’t that weird thing having to do with the lingua!
The Sphynx cat was in the clinic to be castrated. The surgery went according to plan, everything went as planned. Later, however, one crucial little thing changed: the kitten’s tongue had changed colour!
Black tongue
Indeed, after the surgery, the tongue, instead of appearing pink, became completely black, like a piece of coal.
It goes without saying that all the vets in the Facebook group I love Veterinary Medicine they are wondering what could have caused that sudden change of color. Apparently, however, the cat is fineand this is no small thing.
The mystery remains
The unusual spontaneous color change could be a peculiarity of Sphynx cats or a very rare effect following castration surgery.
Some experts report that they have already been faced with cats that suddenly had black tongues. However, no one has yet been able to explain this surprising change.
