Walking the dog in the mountains: here are the ideas

Our readers are our strength. For this reason we have decided to give them the floor. We present an interview made in 2019 to Ludovica Soldarinpassionate about animals, who loves to spend her time with her faithful companion SYD.

Since Ludovica’s favorite activity is the walking the dog in the mountainsthe influencer decided to share some advice on this topic with us.

Hi Ludovica, tell us a little about yourself

“Hello everybody! My name is Ludovica, I’m 26 and I work in the marketing field. I graduated in corporate communication at the University of Italian Switzerland and, later, I obtained a master’s degree in marketing, communication and digital strategy in Milan.
I am a lover of sport, the outdoors, adventure and the pet world. I have always enjoyed being in contact with animals and I practiced horse riding at a competitive level».

…And your faithful companion!

«My favorite adventure companion is Syd – the name is in honor of Syd Barret of Pink Floyd -, a 5-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier (commonly abbreviated to Amstaff) (Syd is 9 today, ed). He is a muscular, intelligent, loving and very playful dog.
To capture every detail of our adventures together and publish moments of daily life, I decided to open an Instagram profile (@dognroll.blog)».

How do you spend your time together?

«With Syd we love going to the mountains and taking long walks, thus reconciling the shared passion for the outdoors and movement.
For this type of activity it is essential to be properly equipped. We use, first of all, a sturdy harness, comfortable and above all functional. I suggest a high visibility model, soft, light and breathable, with excellent weight distribution. On the market there are also comfortable variants equipped with a backpack ».

What are the accessories to take with you on walks in the mountains with the dog?

“Definitely one travel bowlboth for water and for food. A rain/thermal jacket for dogs used to a warmer climate than that of the chosen destination. As for the leash, I suggest a light one, with an additional handle to use in case of need. The ideal would be a model convertible into a canicross leash (since it is possible to tie it at the waist).
In the event that steep routes are foreseen, with treacherous terrain or walks on the snow, my advice is to use suitable dog shoes».

Any last tips on where to go?

“A recommended place for mountain walks with the dog, both in winter and in summer is definitely Livigno, in the province of Sondrio. During the winter season the snowy landscape will leave you breathless. It is a place suitable for everyone, both for shopping lovers (Livigno is VAT exempt), and for the more adventurous, in fact Nordic Walkingwalk with special rackets, suitable for everyone.

Another location to visit is without a doubt As, where you can admire the majesty of the lake from suggestive routes, also suitable for children. A tip is the Greenway of Lake Como, to discover villages, villas, gardens, Romanesque and Baroque churches, immersed in the enchanting landscape of the western shore of Lake Como».
