Liz Truss’s vision for a low-tax, high-growth economy clearly wasn’t working, so she spoke to His Majesty the King and stepped down as Conservative Party leader yesterday, Oct.20, after just 45 days in office.

The news came as a shock to many, some joking that it didn’t even last as long as a lettuce in the fridge.

The resignation of Prime Minister Liz Truss

Shortly after that Liz Truss announced his resignation as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Larry the Downing Street Cat shared his message on Twitter.

Famous for posting satirical tweets about current political happenings in the UK, the British government’s tabby cat’s Twitter message went viral.

The tweet of the Downing Street cat goes around the web

To be honest, we understand people’s frustration. There have been three Prime Ministers in the past 6 years, which involves a lot of changes. Fortunately, there is hope.

The official mouse catcher of the British government is preparing to welcome its fifth premier. Larry the Downing Street cat tweeted on the subject announcing:

“King Charles III asked me to become Prime Minister because this nonsense went on long enough.”

The tweet, which received over 355,000 “likes” in a very short time, is accompanied by a photo of the cat standing in front of Downing Street with a photoshopped miniature podium.

We are sure that the British people are relieved to hear this news. After all, Larry has outlived all Prime Ministers at Number 10 since he was adopted by Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in the 2011.
