Having a dog in Germany presupposes the payment of one annual feewhich ranges from 120 to 1,000 euros per year depending on the municipality of residence.
In the German city of Hilden a particular episode took place in this regard, told by the satire program of the NDR “Extra 3”.
Strange decision of public officials
On August 25, 2022, it was surprising that German civil servants apparently had much more imagination than is usually believed.
The victim is Marianus K. from Hilden, who some time ago received one very unexpected letter from the Municipality asking him for a payment.
In the communication he was asked to pay the dog tax for two copies in the last three years, including late payment fees and surcharges, for a total of € 1,130. Marianus K. though he has no dogs!
At first Marianus thought it was a joke. Then she sought personal contact with the mayor of Hilden, who confirmed that the matter was out of the question.
In reality, however, demanding a dog tax for non-existent four-legged friends is far from out of the question. Soon after, the matter moves on to the next round.
The fault of the photos of dogs on the Internet
The mayor of the city of Hilden said that if there is an unregistered dog in a home, a request will be sent to register it or to declare who is the owner of the dog.
In addition, the demand for payment has increased further. Now it amounts to 1.400 euro and there is no end in sight.
The request is based on the photos Marianus K. has posted on Facebook in which we see two dogs who had gone to visit him with their owners.
This was enough to make the agents suspicious. So be careful what is published online!
