Rocky arrived at the Vösendorf animal shelter in Austria shortly before Natale 2012. Apparently, the animal, still young, had relationship problems with other dogs. Not he got along well with his fellow menwhich is why its owner abandoned it.
In particular, he didn’t have a good relationship with the other dog in the family. So, his master left him to his fate abandoning him in a shelter.
Everyone loves it, but nobody adopts it
From the moment Rocky set foot in the shelter, he has won the hearts of the volunteers who took care of him every day.
Training sessions with a dog trainer, hours and hours trying to calm him down, lots of patience to make him gradually accept other dogs: these were the activities that the dog practiced every day at the association, and in each of them the furry friend improved rapidly.
Over time, Rocky has become a confident dog, without fears, without anguish, more relaxed. In addition, he boasted an increasing ease in relating to both humans and other dogs.
Also, Rocky, through the patience of all the people who worked to educate him, joined the program Shelter Buddyin which the children participate in reading sessions together with the dogs of the shelter with the aim of making them meet and maybe find a family for those furbabies.
“All the kids loved Rocky, but no family wanted to take the step of adopting him,” the volunteers said.
Rocky has been waiting for 10 years
After 10 long years lived behind the bars of a kennel, life ended up smiling at Rocky too. This dog, who has now become an adorable grandpa, finally found a family right in the Christmas period of 2022.
After 3641 days of stay in the refuge, the farewell was really emotional and in a certain sense painful for all those who have accompanied Rocky in these years.
According to reports from the shelter on its Facebook page, volunteers watched him leave with tears in my eyes and with a mixture of nostalgia and joy for his future in his heart:
“Rocky will be greatly missed by all of us, but the joy in his new life is enormous.”
A touching moment for everyone involved in the project of his socialization and, without a doubt, an unforgettable Christmas for Rocky. A story of hope that invites us to believe that in this particular period i miracles can happen.
