The most important thing to do on World Animal Day

Today, October 4, 2022day dedicated to Saint Francisas the World Animal Day.

On this day around the world animal rights are celebrated, domestic or wild, but how did this idea come about? And how we can contribute in our small way to this noble cause?

The origin of the World Animal Day

It is no coincidence that World Animal Day falls on the very same day as Saint Francis of Assisipatron saint of Italy and protector of animals.

This celebration was introduced in 1929 in Vienna, but officially established in Florence in 1931 and is intended to celebrate animals, their rightstheir role in society and in human life but, above all, it wants to remind us that we must safeguard endangered species.

Animal rights

The animal cause seems to have more and more weight in today’s society, just look at the interest politicians bring to their lives.

But is it possible to search for an origin of this noble cause? In 1975, the young Australian philosopher Peter Singer published Animal Liberation (Animal Liberation), a rigorous essay on ethics considered among the founding texts of the animal cause.

In the middle of the 1970s, in a historical period marked by anti-racist and feminist struggles, Singer proposed to add animal liberation to the human emancipation agenda.

Today, more than 40 years later, we are united and we celebrate this day together to push the human race to an awareness to be able to make the words of Pope Luciani understandable to all:
