the 10 fluffiest cats (Photos)

Most cat breeds impress us with their fur, and long and semi-long haired cats are among the most endearing felines.

However, not all long-haired cats are fluffy at the same time — so fluffy you can literally sink your hand into their fur. Depends on what? Discover our ranking of the 10 breeds of furry cats fluffier!

Furry cat breeds: the 10 most beautiful

What determines the fluffiness of a cat? First, the type of coverage. A long-haired cat will not always be fluffy: some semi-long haired breeds are almost completely devoid of undercoat, which makes their coat soft and silky, close to the body.

For other specimens, the down is limited to a ruff around the neck and a large tail, while still others have a dense, layered coat, making them real hairballs!

1. Persian cat

Our ranking of furry cats opens with the Persian cat: charming face, soft coat and calm character, this specimen has an audience of admirers.

The Persian has the longest coat among domestic cats (its hair can reach a length of 10-15 cm). Its undercoat is thick and soft.

It protrudes slightly from the body so the whole coat, although sumptuous, gives the impression of being incredibly light.

Particularly long hairs are found around the ruff and on the hind legs. And especially in these areas of the body, the coat can tend to get tangled.

Therefore, the owner of a specimen of this breed should devote enough time to hair care of your pet. Otherwise, it will not only lose its aesthetic value, but will also cause problems for the animal (from ingested hairballs to felted tangles, the presence of which will cause pain to the feline).

2. Siberian Cat and Neva Masquerade

The Siberian cat is a natural breed adapted to harsh climates. The Sibi has a thick, waterproof coat with a thick undercoat. It’s true that the coat of the Siberian is not as long as that of the Persian, but this breed has a triple coat, which is ideal for adverse weather conditions. Of course, this does not mean that a Siberian will refuse warm blankets and a comfortable armchair at home!

In spring, however, it can moult quite intensively. These cats require regular coat care: in this way we will avoid the formation of knots and the ingestion of too much fur during the toilet.

Neva Masquerade is the “sister” breed of the Sibi, from which it differs only in the color point.

3. Norwegian Forest Cat

The Norwegian Forest cat is the second giant thick-haired cat adapted to the harsh climate.

It is an ancient breed that has been known in Scandinavia for centuries. His coat with a thick, woolly undercoat is waterproof and protects from the cold.

In the spring and summer season, Norwegians can moult intensely. Then their coat becomes shorter and lighter, apart from the tail, which always looks very impressive.

4. Maine Coon

The Maine Coon, a breed originating in the United States, is one of the largest specimens in the world. The coat is thickwhile the length of the hair varies according to the part of the body.

The longest hairs form a ruff around the neck, “trousers” on the hind legs and a magnificent tail, and also grow on the chest and belly.

5. British longhair cat

The long-haired variety of the most popular breed in the UK is a real ‘teddy bear’. It is true that the length of its coat does not correspond to that of Persian cats, but the very thick undercoat makes the coat of the British long-haired extremely thick and soft to the touch.

This “softness” is uniquely matched by its characteristic muzzle: broad head, medium sized ears, short nose and huge eyes!

6. Sacred cat of Brimania

This breed colorpoint from the Far East similar to the Siamese is also part of the furry cats. It has a sleek silhouette and a long and silky hair. The Burmese cat’s coat has much less undercoat than, for example, the fur of Persian or Siberian cats.

The coat of cats of this breed is therefore less likely to matt and tangle. Burmese also shed much less intensely.

7. Selkirk Rex

If you dream a sheep-like cat, the Selkirk Rex is the breed for you! This kitty, present in our list of furry cats, boasts a curly and dense coatwhich comes in short-haired and long-haired varieties.

In the latter the coat is extremely soft, dense and protruding. It doesn’t form neat waves like the Devon Rex or the Cornish Rex – each hair has an individual twist and as a result the four-legged looks a bit “disheveled” and certainly very downy!

8. Ragdoll

Among the furry cats on our list we find the “rag doll”. The Ragdoll is a semi-long haired cat, quite fluffy, extremely soft and silkymoreover it is “equipped” with a thin and delicate layer of undercoat.

Thanks to this, Ragdolls do not require as intensive care as other specimens: their coat is not prone to tangling.

9. Nebelung

The Nebelung does not have an exceptionally thick undercoat, but the softness of the entire coat is due to something else: the protruding double layer makes the coat soft and fluffy.

This is, after all, a characteristic of the Russian Blue cat, whose Nebelung is a semi-longhaired variety!

10. Turkish Angora

An elegant and ancient breed from Anatolia, the Turkish Angora is the ancestor of many long-haired breeds. This feline could be the ancestor of the Persian cats, but differs from it in a slightly shorter coat and a much more modest undercoat.

The fur of the Turkish Angora is soft and silkydoes not get tangled, it is longer in winter than in summer.
