Need to speak with a Vet Doctor?

his mistress calls for vigilance

Beginning of August 2022, Carrie Straussaccompanied by her son Charlie and her 7-year-old Jack Russel Terrier, went to visit her father in Shrewsbury in Britain.

“We were walking around nearby farmland and Ziggy found a dead mouse. He took it in his mouth and brought it to my daddy”explained the young woman to Vets Now.

2 hours later, although he didn’t bite the beast, Ziggi began to show worrying signs. He stumbled and spun around. “It was a bit like he was drunk”clarified Keri.

Fortunately, the owner’s father, an avid conservationist who regularly deals with poisonous snakes, soon realized what was happening to the poor pooch.

In haste, Keri a conduit Ziggy at the on-call veterinary clinic Vets Now de Telford.

A life-threatening prognosis

“We prepared Keri and her family for the worst, because despite our best efforts, Ziggy was initially unresponsive to treatment”explained the animal doctors Ela Barczak et Karen Booth.

The priority was therefore to know with which toxic product Ziggy had been poisoned. After investigation, his mistress discovered that it was the Racan Rapid, which contains alphachloralose. This deadly ingredient attacks the nervous system rather than vital organs.

The veterinarians therefore treated Ziggy using an anti-epileptic drug, because the poison had already been digested.

“We also gave him intravenous fluids and despite some improvement, we then had to put Ziggy on a continuous drip for almost 24 hours before he was stable enough”said Ela Barczak.

He returned home and continued his recovery with his family. 3 weeks later, the doggie was definitely back.

Today, Keri, freshly graduated in psychology, wishes to warn the population of the dangers of this product. It is also leading a fight to authorize its sale only to professionals.

“A child could pick up a mouse, then put their hands to their mouth and get secondary poisoning. Ziggy didn’t even eat it and there was no puncture on it”testified the young woman.
