Hercules, a four-legged angel
I rescue dogs they are special creatures, proving to be invaluable aids in earthquakes, avalanches or accidents of various kinds. Hercules was too.
The black-coated German Shepherd together with his handler, Diego Antonucci, had heroically contributed to various missions, offering his skills at the service of citizens.
Diego Antonucci’s touching farewell message
Diego Antonucci, handler of the dogs of the Alpine and Speleological Rescue of Abruzzo, announced the sad death of his faithful adventure companion with the following words:
«Unfortunately tonight he passed away, yesterday evening he suddenly made me understand. He died in my arms this morning after a night of petting him. She is much tougher than I could have expected. He was a particular dog, he gave me the opportunity to learn many things and to introduce me to many people and many beautiful places. We trusted each other.”
Losing your dog is an inconsolable mourning. The bond of affection and mutual trust that arise between a dog and its handler are very deep, as is evident in today’s history.
«I have no regrets – continues Antonucci on Facebook – I will honor him by passing everything on to the other rescue dogs. He also managed to teach me something until the end. No complaints, he raised his head, looked for me with his paw and then a last sigh… he showed me how a true Warrior dies ».
And he concludes:
«Continue to watch over me, over us, run happy on your powdery Majella snow and wait for me».
Riposa in pace Hercules!
