Animalists Against Cats by Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift

There are many stars who love pets. There are those who are more cat teams and those who are more dog teams. The kitten team also includes the likes of Ed Sheeran e Taylor Swift.

The two singers, however, ended up under the eye of the storm moved by Cats Protection, a British charity that deals with cats. The reason? The two have a race that shouldn’t even exist!

The Scottish Fold controversy

Ed and Taylor have always been posting pictures with their beloved cats including Calippothe Scottish Fold of the English singer, and Meredith e Oliviathe two Scottish of the American singer.

The problem is that since this breed has been made famous by the stars, their demand has increased, until arriving in Great Britain at 110,000 specimens, equal to 1% of the British population. Not everyone knows, however, that the sweet and tender appearance of these kittens hides many health problems.

The diseases of the Scottish Fold

This breed, in fact, characterized by folded ears (hence the English term “fold“), is the victim of various genetic diseases, includingosteocondrodisplasiaweakness of the cartilage in the ears (which gives them their unique appearance) and joints.

Such disease leads this breed to suffer from arthritis at a very young age and this can lead, in the long run, to a difficult life which ends in euthanasia. They are not uncommon either heart and kidney problems, as well as, of course, the ears.

The first Scottish

Susie she was the first kitten of this breed: she was discovered in 1961 from a farmer, William Rosswho decided to repeat this particular trait of the folded ears from mother to son.

today, of course, the pathologies of this breed are hereditary and their health will only get worse over time. That’s why the alarm raised by Cats Protection achieves the agreement of all animal rights groups and veterinarians in the UK.
