Why do cats make pasta?

In the complex world of cat language, one has always wondered about the because cats make pasta or they knead bread (if you prefer) intent on a dance with many meanings. It is not surprising to see some cat behaviors curious enough to invite us, as humans, to ask why.

When the cat makes pasta it is communicating an emotion with us which can be of pure serenity or real discomfort. We certainly don’t need to worry about this feline behavior, but overall it is good to observe its variations to anticipate any negative moods.

Why do cats make pasta?

What does it mean when cats make pasta? Surely many pet owners will have happened to observe that the cat, curled up on a blanket or on your belly, moves its front paws vibrating strongly.

Cats who knead are actually expressing their need, usually for affection and cuddles.

It all starts from the childhood of the kittens, when during lactation they dance on the belly of the mother-cat to stimulate the flow of milk from the udders. These movements, also repeated by adult cats, are referred to as doing the milk dance. In this video, here is an example of cats making pasta while being breastfed.

Not all scholars agree that this typical behavior of the cat can be somehow related to an early removal of the kitten from its mother. Indeed, it is very rare that the cat does not make pasta! There is, therefore, no real reason to explain why some cats don’t make pasta.

By making pasta, the cat expresses itself and, for this reason, since no feline specimen is the same as the other, some cats may choose not to communicate this way. This absolutely does not mean that the cats are not happy!

Territoriality of the cat who kneads

The cat’s kneading is accompanied by a dreamlike behavior that sees the cat absorbed and, in some cases, foaming at the mouth, as if it were reliving its first days of life.

Through this movement not only does it reactivate a memory, but the cat that makes the dough on blankets, soft fabrics or human belly, does so to signal, through the sweat glands placed under the front paws, its belonging territory (including the their “human property”).

Furthermore, the glands, releasing odorous traces and endorphins, surround the feline of one sensation di environmental well-being in which it prepares to relax and sleep. But this would only partially explain why cats make pasta.

In fact, it is believed that in this behavior, the feline activates an ancestral and instinctive habit that brings it back to its wild statewhen it was looking for soft and safe areas in which to give birth to its young.

On a behavioral level, the cat who makes pasta is a bit like the human who, to gratify himself, bites his nails or plays with his hair. But this is not the only strange habit of cats, there are many others that in one way or another outline what experts define as the language of cats.

Compulsive behavior of the cat: the cat who “makes bread”

My cat makes pasta on me in this obsessive way, what is he trying to communicate to me? A right question to ask yourself when faced with a typical behavior of the cat, already bizarre of him, you can’t understand what he wants to communicate to us. A cat that always kneads is a symptom of stressof a discomfort caused by an environment that fails to calm him down.

This discomfort could be caused by the presence of new things in the house (such as children, new furniture, a new pet, a new house). The intimate relationship that develops between the cat and its human friend can be described as otherworldly.

The cat making pasta is a real gift that the cat gives to its human friend. The benefits deriving from this contact for both are soothing and pure relaxation.
