It had been months since Thierry Bedossa (president) and Elisa Gorins (communications manager) awaited the realization of this unique project in France. The AVA Roommate – Acting for Animal Life has just opened its doors Rouvray-Catillon in Seine-Maritime, not far from the first refuge of the association located at Cuy-Saint-Fiacre.
It is a ” unique concept of family refuge, intended for both animals and human beings, in Seine-Maritime “. One of the great particularities of this sanctuary is, in fact, that it is also intended for the elderly, who can thus continue their life peacefully and serenely alongside the animals.
The AVA roommate is still only in its experimental phase on this point, with only one human resident for the moment, but the objective is to allow other seniors and ecovolunteers to reside there in the future.
The resident in question is none other than Maxime Legerhistorical founder of the first refuge ofAVA17 years before Dr Veterinarian took over the torch Thierry Bedossa. The latter explains that Maxime Leger and his late wife Jenny him had ” learned that we could live among animals, with respect and kindness “. Allow seniors to continue to live well with the animals they love
More generally, the In Dr. Bedo hopes, through the creation of this sanctuary, to offer the possibility to those who wish to continue to live well and age well with the animals they love “, he who says he is deeply indignant by” this way of separating the elderly from their pets to put them in nursing homes and other communities ».
There are already dozens of animals at the new sanctuary. All of them have escaped euthanasia or the slaughterhouse for various reasons, in particular because they are no longer considered “useful”. The AVA roommate welcomes dogs and cats as well as farm, farmyard and ornamental animals: chickens, peacocks, goats, horses…
Among them is Lascar, a retired pony after a lifetime of teaching youngsters to ride at an equestrian center. Or Roxanne, a female Yorkshire Terrier whose owner decided to separate due to incompatibility of lifestyles. Now, this adorable dog who is bursting with energy has all the space she needs to let off steam and express herself freely.
No separation between residents
Freedom, precisely, is the key word in this sanctuary, where there is no cage or box. Animals of different species and humans live there together and in harmony, enjoying a green setting on more than 3 hectares and everything necessary for their development. The site includes, for example, an indoor heated swimming pool where dogs can swim.
