Nobody wanted Princess Fiona, then the twist when she meets a little girl

This is the Princess Fionaa Pit Bull with a chronic condition that causes abdominal bloating and excessive shedding.

The puppy was looking for a home before the Christmas holidays at an adoption event Humane Rescue Alliance in early December 2022 in Washington.

Fiona’s condition

Princess Fiona, 7, was delivered adopted by her owners in January. Unfortunately, the latter brought her back to the shelter in August.

The animal has Cushing’s disease. His hair loss, constant thirst, frequent toilet breaks and bloated belly – due to weakened abdominal muscles and an enlarged liver – are all the result of excessive production of cortisolthe known stress hormone.

The animal shelter staff didn’t want to give up and thought it was time, once again, to show all that Fiona had to offer.

The adoption event

Unlike Princess Fiona in the movie Shrekwhose monstrous form becomes permanent, veterinarians believed that the condition of this sweet four-legged friend would probably improveif only he could find a less stressful environment to live in.

And so she arrived at a mall in Northeast Washington on Dec. 3, wearing a Christmas sweateralong with other dogs and cats.

At some point, a woman named Monica Whitakeron her way to the mall with her daughter to look at adoptable cats, asked the volunteer Alesha Bryant whether Fiona was pregnant or not.

Staff explained to her about Cushing’s disease, Pitbull’s long hospital stay, and the medical care she needs.

Monica nodded to her 16-year-old son, who was sitting on a bench ignoring her, but the boy showed disinterest.

The girl falls in love with Fiona

His 5 year old little sister, Myanihowever, seemed particularly impressed by this dog so different from the others: he offered her a stick of cheese and interacted lovingly with her.

And the mother, seeing Fiona, thought of her 19-year-old son who had an accident that left him with intellectual disabilities and speech difficulties.

He thought of all the times he’d had to fight for him to be treated like other children.

As stated in the washingtonpostMonica told the volunteers what she often said to her son:

“Just because someone has medical difficulties doesn’t mean they don’t deserve the life they want.”

A new life

The next morning, Whitaker went to the shelter to pick up Fiona still in her Christmas sweater, surrounded by staff members who they greeted her emotionally.

Staff gave the woman a month’s worth of medication, a harness to help her dog climb stairs and a packet of cheese sticks.

Princess Fiona she happily settled down in his new home. Even though she tried wearing a diaper for a while, she promptly removed it. The family said that with frequent trips to the garden, she had few accidents in the house.

Good life Princess Fiona!
