Investigation opened after the death of three dogs at the canicross championships

Il Canicross championship which took place in Vauvert, in France, it turned into a nightmare. An investigation has just been opened after the suspicious deaths of three dogs and a fourth ended up in hospital.

Everything was going smoothly, but the second round of the competition did not take place, because it was at that very moment that the dogs fell victim to «malicious acts».

Dogs victims of poisoning

According to the organizers, the animals were victims of poisoning: “Our thoughts go to the dogs who left us following an abject criminal act by someone who posted poisoned meatballs on the site”, explains the Canine Sports and Leisure Federation (Federation that deals with the sporting activities of four-legged friends in France).

According to local network information, France 3 Occitaniathe three dogs died between ten and fifteen minutes after ingesting one of these meatballs. The fourth animal, between life and death would have “smelled the vomit of other dogs”.

Autopsy in Lyon

Police at the scene found several meatballs. Participants have already been questioned and the victim dogs will be autopsied in Lyon to shed light on this terrible affair.

“All our support goes to the three grieving owners, the president and the Canicross 30 team. Together with the National Canicross Federation and the local association, the municipality will be pressing charges, hoping that the culprit will be found quickly. By municipal decree, access to the basin of the plain and access to the woods are prohibited during the investigation by the forces of order,” declared the municipality of Vauvert.
