Corgi prices increased after Queen’s death? A breeder tells the truth

L’September 8, 2022 Queen Elizabeth II died, leaving despondency in the whole world, but above all in the hearts of her loved ones and loved ones dogsan integral part of her family since she was still a child.

The love of the sovereign for the Corgi breed has made these dogs real celebrityincreasing the demand around the world.

Corgi, movie dogs, but what’s the point?

Always a symbol of royalty, Corgi dogs have known a peak of success thanks to TV series The Crownbut also a Rex – A puppy in the palace, Cartoon released a few years ago on the Queen’s dogs.

We talked about this “fashion effect“with an Italian Corgi breeder, Gianandrea Fasanwhich for over 30 years with his Corgilandia she lovingly takes care of all her puppies of this breed.

Gianandrea recognizes this successful explosion of his breed, especially in the last two to three years, but not always all this is beneficial for the animal:

“The market interest has moved, but it is unfortunately an unfortunate interest: it has favored the breed in the country numerically, but not the quality or the health of the breed”.

In other words, continues Fasan, a “bubble” has arisen, as always happens when someone sees market possibility.

What’s true behind the Corgi price increase?

The price increase of the Corgi breed in breeding it is not a recent event: accomplice the economic crisisif in the past in Italy the price averaged between 1500/2000 euros, today we have reached 2000/2500 euros per puppy.

Prices, therefore, do not rise as a result of the Queen’s death, but derive from a steady increase in recent years. Furthermore, breeders find themselves having to do more health tests than in the past, an additional reason that pushes to raise prices:

«The price increases with those who work properly! Real breeders are forced to keep a low price in order to allow the acquisition of the dog, but this cuts any type of income, ”continues Fasan.

And need:

“Nonetheless, this price increase allows traders and people who improvise themselves to be breeders to enter the market, when they are really scammers!”

A constantly growing demand

What is certain is that the demand has increased over the last few years. The farms become almost like supermarkets:

“I get some dry questions like ‘Do you have it? How much does it cost?’ I have always made an evaluation of the client before giving my dogs, but today it is as much necessary as it is impossible, because people get annoyed ».

What that instead it didn’t happen in the pastwhen people who went to a kennel did so out of a real interest in the breed for which they were properly informed:

“In the past when 10 people called, 9 were reliable. Today there are no longer all contacts, but people who are really interested and ready to share life with a Corgi can be counted on the fingers of one hand ».

We thank Gianandrea Fasan for telling us how things really are. And we at Todocat would like to remind all of you that before getting a dog, whether it is for adoption or breeding, you must always think about it because animals are not objectsbut family members with whom we will share the rest of our life.
