Are they weaker than cats born in May?

You should choose a autumn cat or a cat born in spring? Myths about autumn cats persist.

Today, in this guide, we explain what’s really wrong with the aforementioned injury and why it doesn’t matter what period your pet was born.

When are autumn cats born?

Autumn kittens are cats born in the fall. Unlike the so-called May kittens, the term does not refer to a specific month, but to a period of birth that goes from September to November.

Are autumn cats weaker and more vulnerable?

Autumn cats are commonly considered weaker and vulnerable kittens born in spring. According to the myth, kittens are smaller and grow slower. They are also said to be more susceptible to disease.

The myth

Il myth of kittens born in autumn probably has its origins in the ancient peasant wisdom. Because while domestic tigers are comfortable in the home or apartment today, cats at the time were typically outdoors and hunted mice in the yard.

Reality

But it is true that there are more dangers lurking in nature in autumn and winter:

  • it’s colder,
  • food supply is reduced,
  • hunting possibilities are limited.

The chances of survival for the little cats would therefore be lower in the autumn and winter months for the cats living outside the home.

Are autumn cats smaller than cats born in May?

The bad reputation of autumn cats persists. The wisdom of the old farmer has long been outdated. Today, cats are rarely farm animals that go outdoors to hunt mice.

On the contrary, nowadays domestic cats lack nothing and are lovingly loved and cared for. Often, outdoor cats also have a large supply of food, are fed by people in the winter and are not likely to starve.

Autumn cats therefore have the same chances of growth and survival as all other domestic cats. There is no evidence that animals born in the fall months are weaker or more susceptible to disease.

Autumn cats, therefore, can be as healthy, playful and affectionate as any other cat!

Autumn cats or spring cats: which one to choose?

In most cases, the fact that you choose a cat born in spring, summer, autumn or winter it does not affect health or character in any way of the animal.

So don’t be fooled by breeders or sellers who advise against fall cats, praising their “spring” or “summer” kittens as being particularly hardy and perhaps charging more money for all of that.

Each cat is unique, no matter when it was born. When buying or adopting a shelter – we at Todocat always recommend the latter option – make sure you can offer your pet a beautiful home, lots of time and endless love!
