an association launches a campaign aimed at employers





Over time, the relationship between humans and animals has evolved considerably. Friends, daily helpers or full members of the family: cats and dogs have taken an important place in homes. Because they represent loved ones, their death often causes immense sadness. In the United Kingdom, an association calls on employers to offer their employees leave after the death of a little companion.











« Losing a pet is like losing a family member. These are the first words of an article published in the Mirror August 19, 2022. When Death mows down the little cat or little dog that has faithfully followed us on life’s journey, it’s hard not to feel his heart breaking. Over time, powerful bonds are created between the adopter and his protege. In many homes, the animal obtains a privileged place: it is recognized as being a full member.

As our colleagues across the Channel point out, there is no legal obligation for a UK employer to grant leave after the death of a furry friend. In Irelandthe nation’s largest animal welfare organization, hopes to change that.

Dogs Trust Ireland decided to challenge them by organizing a vast campaign entitled: “ Not Just A Dog » (« Not just a dog “). The association invited Internet users to spread its message on social networks, by sharing a photo of their hairball accompanied by the hashtag #NotJustADog.

Still according to the article of Mirrorthe organization conducted research that found more than half of adopters felt the grief felt after the death of a dog was similar to or worse than the loss of a loved one.

Three-quarters of respondents said they have more photos of their dogs on their phone than of their partner, family members or friends. For some, a year (or even more) was needed to accept the disappearance of their beloved canine.

Dogs Trust Ireland admitted offering its staff a day off with pay in the event of the death of a dog.
