A pregnant cat finds refuge before health problems come to ruin everything

Pregnant cats look for a safe place with plenty of food during their pregnancy to give birth to their offspring. Willow was able to find help, and fortunately, because the impressive size of her babies would have jeopardized her survival.

An alley cat approached a man’s home in mid-June 2022. She was affectionate and showed her need to be pampered. Since it was obvious that she was socialized, the good Samaritan went in search of her family, in vain.

He therefore contacted the association Tiny but Mighty Kitten Rescue situated at Cornwall au Canada so that a volunteer takes care of it.

“I reached out and offered to take her knowing she was probably pregnant based on her belly”said In Melli at Love Meow.

Willow therefore moved into her new home and immediately felt at ease there.

Complications

The first weeks have passed under the best auspices. However, on July 1, Willow had an unexplained seizure.

In Melli therefore took her to the vet. Luckily, the ultrasound revealed that her pups were doing well and the animal doctor found no serious health issues. It would therefore be a stress-related incident. With adequate treatment, she was able to return to the shelter and continue her pregnancy quietly.

On August 1, 2022, Willow started the work of her farrowing. 2 babies were born within minutes of each other. However, In Melli worried when she noticed that Willow had trouble expelling the others.

Indeed, the kittens were oddly tall and fat. The veterinarian therefore had to perform an emergency cesarean section.

“Willow and her newborns wouldn’t have survived if she was still outside. I’m incredibly grateful that she ended up in my care at that time.”told In Melli.

This hard ordeal was however quickly forgotten and henceforth, Willow was sterilized. She took care of her offspring like a chef 24 hours a day.

Today, the little cats have grown up and opened their eyes. They enthusiastically explore their surroundings and flood places with soft purrs. At 2 weeks, they were twice the weight of a kitten that age.

The feline family flourishes at In Melli. Each will be offered for adoption after the weaning of the little ones.
