A new study conducted in Finland by the University of Helsinki examined 13 dog breeds by assigning them cognitive and behavioral tasks. And it was the Belgian Shepherd Malinois who was elected a smartest breed in the world.

Malinois, often used as police dogs, got it 35 out of 39 points in a variety of cognitive and behavioral tasks in the study. A very high score.

But which breed of dog scored the worst and could therefore be considered the “dumbest”?

The top 5 least intelligent breeds

According to Professor Stanley Coren, canine expert at theUniversity of British Columbia in Canada, the afghan hound it is the least intelligent dog breed when it comes to understanding and obeying commands.

In the top 5 of “less intelligent” dogs we find:

Professor Coren is the author of a book titled The Intelligence of Dogspublished in 1994. In his book, he ranked 130 breeds from smartest to dumbest, placing them in five different categories.

This ranking was based on tests with over 200 professors from obedience in the United States and Canada. Obviously these results must be taken with a grain of salt, without giving them more importance than they have. Each dog has its own intelligence, different from that of the others.
