He had gone out and as usual he had given himself up to his favorite activity: hunting. He had captured prey and he decided to take it to his masters as a present. But what a surprise for her owners!

Spits out a strange creature

When Olive dropped the little creature to the ground, its owners let out a cry of terror. On their floor was a serpent with two heads and a body.

The two heads were able to turn around independently one from the other. Furthermore, the strange creature could move the two pairs of eyes and the two tongues without any problem.

The family decided to call him Of the, which is Spanish for “two”. For him, the biggest problem was eating, since his two heads couldn’t coordinate.

Rare genetic anomaly

This physical condition is called bicephaly: This is a rare abnormality that occurs during fetal development when identical twins cannot separate.

This phenomenon also occurs in deer and porpoises, small oceanic mammals. In snakes it occurs one bicephalic birth per year. In 2019, a two-headed snake called “Double-Dave” was born in New Jersey (USA).

Bicephalic animals have a very hard life in the wild: they have more difficulty to capture prey and escape faster from predators. For this reason, they often end their lives in welcomed captivity specialized centres where experts take care of them.
