At the end of the month of August 2022, Lisa St. Coeur Cormier went out for a walk with her dog on the beach of Cape Egmont, on Prince Edward Island, in Canada.
What seemed, however, a common one walkthe discovery of the century was soon revealed.
Discovery between the tide
Lisa, a teacher at a local high school, will always remember that day. In a moment of low tide she saw something come out of the water:
“When I looked closer, I realized there was a rib cage,” he told al Washington Post -. And around that, there was a spine and a skull. ‘
There was no doubt, Lisa and her dog had discovered a fossil of the dinosaur age! A geologist and paleontologist who rushed to the place immediately realized that he was in front of a rest of theCarboniferous age and that of the Permian.
It will take more research to understand what species of fossil it is, but what experts have understood is that it is a very rare specimen.
Not the first time
The island of Prince Edward is famous for the many finds of the last years:
“The island’s fossil legacy has reached a point where it proudly stands on the world stage,” geologist John Calder told the National Post in 2018.
At the time, fossil footprints dating back to 100 million years before the dinosaurs.
