Volunteer dog handlers actively searching for a missing man in the Dordogne

The posts of dog handlers for the Dordogne firefighters were abolished in 2015. Fortunately, passionate volunteers take over with their faithful 4-legged companions to find missing people.

Becoming a dog handler cannot be improvised. the association GCRES 24 (Cynotechnic Group for Search and Rescue 24) is made up of trained volunteers in their spare time.

Since 2015, they have been teaching their dogs, often German Shepherd or Belgian Shepherd Malinois, the art of finding missing or lost people.

A passion that they then put at the service of the community. Indeed, in everyday life, they are employees, contractors, firefighters or even mechanics, then make their know-how available as needed.

On August 22, 2022, the organization GCRES 24 was called to the rescue by the town hall of Vitrac in Dordognereports France Blue Perigord.

A man missing since August 16 in Vitrac

A sixty-something man with Alzheimer’s disease went for a walk alone on Tuesday August 16. Since then, he remains untraceable despite the means deployed to find him.

3 dog handlers from the volunteer canine team of the GCRES 24 therefore moved to lend a hand to 2 elected officials of the town hall present on the scene.

The group has established a specific search area based on the searches already carried out by the authorities. Some residents told the gendarmerie that they had seen the 65-year-old man. Testimonials were therefore also taken into account.

Jacky, one of the volunteers, let the flair of his dog do the talking. The duo entered various hard-to-reach areas such as abandoned buildings or barns.

Sometimes the place is only accessible to canids. Never mind, he knows what he has to do. His master waits patiently for him to do his job. These track dogs use the odors emanating from a personal object of the missing individual to locate his olfactory trace.

After 2 days of intensive searches, the sexagenarian has still not been found. Law enforcement is currently awaiting further reports.
