Every owner who loses his dog asks himself the question: of all the dog urns available, which one to choose? as?

The choice essentially boils down to individual cremation with recovery of the ashes or burial in a pet cemetery. In the first case, you can keep your pet’s ashes in an urn, the model that best suits your needs: from the simple one in precious metal to the heart-shaped one.

In the latter case, or if you want to bury your friend’s ashes in your garden, you can also opt for an elegant dog memorial plaque. Made of stone, granite or plexiglas, it can be customized with a photo. Whichever you choose, urn or memorial plaque, you will make a beautiful last tribute to your faithful companion.

What to do with dog’s ashes?

Once Fido has passed away and you have opted for an individual cremation, his ashes will be returned, either directly or through your vet. But what to do with it? The solutions are different:

  • You can scatter your dog’s ashes in a place he loved (not public gardens, fields or streets);
  • You can scatter them in a designated area in a pet cemetery;
  • You can keep them at home in a dog urn;
  • You can bury them in your garden and put up a nice dog headstone.

Please note that it is forbidden to bury animals in your garden, regardless of their size.

What is the difference between an urn and a dog grave plaque?

The difference is very important. A funeral urn for dogs will allow you to keep the ashes, or part of the ashes, of your faithful companion. A memorial plaque is not meant to hold the ashes, but to decorate the grave.

While the urn may be kept indoors, the dog gravestone will be confined to the garden (if you buried your pet’s ashes there) or cemetery.

Either way, there are many different models to choose from. The headstone often contains a frame for a photograph. Funeral urns are often more varied in design.

Dog memorial plaques and urns are not the same thing. Before deciding, it’s important to be aware of this and consider how you want to memorialize your pet.

How to choose a dog funeral urn?

Choosing a dog urn is a very personal matter. There are many models, from the classic brass or porcelain urn to the wooden box or a photo frame.

You can choose the urn according to your dog’s personality: wooden, statuette or heart-shaped for a very cuddly companion…

Of course, your aesthetic tastes should also be taken into consideration, especially if you plan to display the urn containing the ashes. Again, you have a wide range of choices, from the most refined to the most minimalist.

You also need to know that they exist polls for all budgets. You can also opt for a pendant urn that may only hold a few grams of ashes but will follow you everywhere. These jewels combine charm and memory.

What Are the Different Types of Dog Grave Plaques?

Dog headstones come in a variety of designs. You will find them in granite (the most classic), but also in stone, resin or plexiglass. Granite, which is durable, comes in different colors from black to pink.

Even the shapes are varied: book, heart, stele, paw print… there’s something for all tastes and budgets.
Most can be customized by adding a photo, tag or inscription.

Choosing a gravestone for dogs is not to be taken lightly: it will perpetuate the memory of your four-legged friend for a long time!

What should I pay attention to when choosing a funeral urn for my dog?

There are several factors to consider when purchasing a dog urn.

First, you have to be sure that the urn is durable. Crematoria usually return animals’ ashes in so-called scatter urns which, as the name implies, are meant to scatter the ashes, not store them. You will then have to transfer them to a resistant urn.

The solidity of the material and the locking system must also be taken into consideration.
Also make sure the urn is large enough to hold all of your dog’s ashes. Many models are reserved for animals weighing less than 20 kilos.

Finally, don’t forget that this dog funeral urn will be your pet’s final resting place and Fido deserves the best.
