What is the cane TTB? What are its features? Perhaps you have heard this wording and are wondering what it means, we at Todocat tell you!

This expression indicates a series of dog breeds that have a specific behavior with their fellows. Let’s find out everything there is to know.

Meaning of the wording dog TTB

A TTB dog is a Terrier Type Bull specimen, that is a subtype of Terrier recognized by the FCI (International Cynological Federation) as such.

TTB dogs share the same ancestry: they are the offspring of a cross between Terrier and Bulldog.

According to the classification of the (FCI), terrier dogs can be grouped into five different categories.

The first is large and medium sized terriers, followed by small breed terriers, pet TTB terriers and toy terriers.

What are the TTB dog breeds?

Here is a list of specimens of TTB dogs, recognized by the FCI

To these breeds must be added the American Pit Bull Terrier, a breed not recognized by the International Cynological Federation.

Characteristics of TTB dogs

Before describing the characteristics of TTB dogs, it should be noted (to avoid confusion) that the acronym TTB does not indicate molossoids, but as specified it is a sub-category of Terriers.

These are particular specimens that have an excellent relationship with the human being, but who have difficulty developing relationships with their own kind, especially if they are specimens of the same sex.

Are TTBs aggressive dogs?

It is not a matter of “aggressive” or “crazy” dogs, as is often erroneously believed, but it is a matter of what is called “breed memory”, a genetic memory, which is transmitted from generation to generation which can cause the specimen has an unsociable attitude towards its own kind.

TTB and coexistence with dogs of the same sex

The historical memory transmitted in the genes cannot be erased. And even if some TTB specimens seem to simply ignore their own kind, it is not uncommon that at a certain moment this memory can re-emerge and turn into an aggressive attitude towards another dog, especially if they are specimens of the same sex.

If some TTB puppies they show no signs of aggression towards their own kind, once they enter adulthood, historical memory can re-emerge.

TTB dogs in detail

So let’s see in detail the characteristics of bull-type terrier dogs, what are the particularities of each breed and their behavior.

Staffordshire Bull Terrier

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a cheerful, agile, dynamic dog, perfect for people and active.

It is a short-haired, medium-sized and very muscular specimen. Its short, broad head can be intimidating. It has a very developed jaw and a black nose. The eyes are medium and round. The ears are pink and semi-erect.

Their torso is broad, muscular and deep, with perfectly arched ribs. The fur can be of different colors: white, black, red, blue.

Il Miniature Bull Terrier

The Bull Terrier was developed in England as a show and fighting dog. It is a muscular and powerful dog, it is usually white in color although black, tabby or red Bull Terriers can also be found. Their coat is smooth and short.

The Bull Terrier has an oval head, triangular shaped eyes and ears. These physical characteristics give it a completely unique appearance, different from that of other dog breeds.

American Staffordshire Terrier

Also known as the Amstaff, the American Staffordshire Terrier is a dog breed that originated in the Staffordshire region of England and later spread to the United States.

It is a muscular and aesthetically fleshy dog which, however, does not lack agility. It has a powerful, broad head with a rounded, medium-sized snout at the top.

Its fangs are also very powerful and this is evident from the very large cheeks. The eyes are wide apart and set low in relation to the skull. The tail gradually tapers to the tip and is thickest at the base.

American Pit Bull Terrier

Commonly known as the Pit Bull, the American Pit Bull Terrier is a medium-sized dog with a massive body, very muscular and short, which gives it the appearance of a mastiff.

Its coat is very smooth and short. The head is recognizable by the very broad snout with sharp teeth. The eyes are round and bright.

This breed suffers from huge prejudices. Indeed, it is possible to hear that «all Pit Bulls are dangerous and aggressive», but it is false. A specimen of this breed that grows up in a healthy environment and is properly educated will be completely at ease with humans, but as mentioned probably won’t be particularly sociable with other specimens.

Some advice when choosing a TTB dog

If you choose to adopt a TTB dog, especially if it is a male specimen, you must bear in mind that these specimens are not suitable for everyone.

They need a strong and well-structured education, which means spending a lot of time with them and respecting all their characteristics.
