And it doesn’t always go smoothly. You know it well Wolpin family that she found herself adopting a dog… a swimmer!

Bear’s story

Bear it is a small crossing of Leonberger-Bernese Mountain Dog adopted a few days earlier of facts from the Wolpin family for the 20 year old son affected by disabilities. The dog, in fact, had been purchased by a breeder with the aim of becoming assistance dog.

Arrived at their home a New Yorkthe puppy proved himself right away scary: Living in the Big Apple isn’t everyone’s thing and Bear was afraid to leave their apartment. On the afternoon of Saturday 3 December, during the routine walk, obviously always on a leash, Bear manages to wriggle free and start running away.

The attempts of the family and passersby who tried to stop him were useless: the little bear, perhaps believing it was a game, ran away even more.

A lover of swimming

The family had lost hope. Until Tuesday 6 December comes the long-awaited call: Bear has been found! And not in any place: he had arrived at theIndependence Harbor in the state of New Jersey crossing the fHudson River swimming! A route that would normally take 40 minutes by car and more than 2 hours on foot!

Luckily Edgewater Firefighters arrived at the scene and pulled him to safety from the water. The puppy was just a little thirsty, but he was still fine fortunately and was able to embrace his family again:

«My son would not stop calling him, kissing him and hugging him. He was so happy, Mrs Wolpin told the local press.’

All’s well that ends well. Maybe the United States has found its new Michael Phelps!
