A litter of abandoned kittens it was found in a roadside recycling bin.
An adult cat, who they assumed was the mother, was snuggling with them to keep them warm in the cold weather.
An abandoned litter
Someone was walking home when they found the cats out in the cold and immediately called the Homeless Animal Adoption Leaguea local animal rescue and rescue association.
She knew that if she didn’t act fast, the kittens would soon freeze.
The adult cat did his best to protect the little ones and even looked at the rescuers as if to thank them.
They covered the plastic box with a blanket and took them to the shelter.
All cats were healthy and able to eat on their own. At first they thought it was 4 kittens, but then they realized it was actually 6.
However, that was the least of the surprises…
The best mom
The adult cat, which they assumed was the mother, was actually a male cat!
It is not known if he was the father or older brother of the kittens, or simply – much more likely – another stray cat, but the truth is that she acted as a foster mother and protected the kittens as best she could.
Wherever that black cat came from, she took responsibility and made sure the kitties were safe until help arrived.
Mrs. Doubtfire
The refuge has named it Mrs. Doubtfire, in honor of the famous character played by Robin Williams in the film Mom forever.
Thanks to the adoption, the little ones have found suitable homes for them. And as for the kitty who rescued them, the shelter posted an update sometime after the fact:
“Mrs. Doubtfire was in foster care for a year and then finally adopted into his foster family. She is in good health but still has herniated diaphragm. She has two cat brothers and a new dog in her family.’
