the top 5 of the breeds

There are millions of people around the world who are allergic to cats, even though protein is the real culprit kind d1contained mainly in the saliva of some specimens and in some of their sebaceous glands.

Fortunately, there are numerous breeds of cats that do not shed you can choose from. Here are 5 of the best!

But first, let’s understand more about cats and allergies.

Allergies to cat fur

We love cats, but their hair can be difficult to manage. While there is nothing more satisfying than cuddling with your fluffy fur ball, it’s him you want him to stay in, not his hair!

In addition to combating pet hair around the home and taking care of their grooming, much of a cat owner’s attention should focus on allergic reactions. They can be really annoying to endure and can cause a lot of inconvenience to the affected subject.

Hypoallergenic cats

Hypoallergenic cats produce significantly fewer allergens – substances that cause allergic reactions – than other breeds. If you are allergic to cats, there are numerous hypoallergenic cats that do not shed to choose from. Among them, you might consider cats:

  • Bengal cat
  • Siamese
  • Cornish Rex

Each of them has a lovely temperament that would fill any home with joy.

If you are considering getting one of the aforementioned felines, check out the shelters first and local catteries. Who knows, maybe they will have one available to adopt!

By having a cat that does not shed or is hypoallergenic, you will eliminate one of the most common triggers of allergies: the hairs scattered around the house, on your clothes and everything in between!

The breeds of cats that do not shed

All cats, like humans, shed some hair. Even a hairless feline like the Sphynx will lose at least some (you’ll see why later!).

Below you will discover the top 5 cat breeds that do not shed, meaning that each one loses a minimum amount of hair and to a much slower pace compared to other cat breeds.

If you’ve always wanted one pantera pet, a Bombay cat might be the right pet for you. Breeding generations have given this cat a shiny and silky black coat which boasts minimal hair loss. The fact that the coat is so short is one of the reasons this cat is hypoallergenic.

Bombay cats are almost canine in nature; they can be leash trained, are extremely loving and intelligent, and can even learn to play fetch!

2. Sphynx

Of the “bald is beautiful” series, the Sphynx is by far the most widely recognizable breed. Although apparently hairless, the truth is that most hairless cats actually have one thin layer of tiny fluff.

This is also the case of the Naked Cat: it is not really hairless but it has an almost invisible hair that makes it similar to a peach or chamois to the touch!

While it may seem counterintuitive, hairless cats aren’t necessarily hypoallergenic and the Sphynx is no exception!

Felines belonging to this breed can produce allergens in their hair and saliva, so if allergies are a problem for you or your loved ones, this may not be a suitable feline.

With less hair comes great responsibility: due to their skimpy coats, hairless cats require special care. Exposed skin means less natural protection from sun, dirt, and sudden changes in temperature, which you’ll have to fight with one more intense grooming routine. It can also mean more frequent baths and a specialized diet.

3. Bengal cat

Bengal cats have a distinctive coat that resembles that of the leopard. Their attractive fur sheds less frequently than other breeds and requires less maintenance.

Despite the wild appearance, the Bengali is typically very affectionate, intelligent and sociable. He is also often downright active and curious, which means you should give him plenty of free space to explore the environment.

4. Siamese

Surprisingly, the Siamese is among the cat breeds that do not shed. Easily recognizable by its distinctive markings and striking blue eyes, the Siamese cat does not shed much hair.

These felines are primarily known to be social and playful creatures that need constant attention from their humans.

They’re also quite talkative, so if you’re not giving him the love and attention he needs, he’ll definitely let you know!

5. Cornish Rex

Most cats have a double coat, consisting of a woolly undercoat and an outer layer of protective hair. Cornish Rex only own one undercoatwhich is soft, curly and less prone to falling out than that of other specimens.

They typically have a smaller head than other breeds, often emphasized by large ears. Get ready to play – Cornish Rex are very active and when they want your attention, you will notice!
