A dog’s sad reaction to the loss of his feline friend broke the hearts of so many people.
A few days ago, Jessica Jamenson he shared on Reddit a photo of his Mysia the doglying near the bed of the deceased gatto Carter of the family.
A heartbreaking photo
The image of Misia next to the now empty kennel received thousands of likes and hundreds of comments in just a few days.
In the caption, the owner wrote:
“My cat died a couple of weeks ago and my dog now sleeps next to his bed and stares at his bed… Sometimes he whines as he stares at it. Do you miss it? Or am I just crazy? They were really close.”
In the comments below the now-viral post, other animal lovers shared their thoughts and some comfort for the woman.
“He’s in mourning. If he doesn’t know he’s dead, then he’s waiting for you to come back,” said one user.
And another wrote: “She misses it. Animals grieve like us.”
“The dog is looking for his friend. It’s really heartbreaking,” comments another.

A Newsweek Jessica said the cat and dog got along very well from the very first day the kitty was adopted as a puppy.
This is why Misia is missing him and is very sad to have lost her friend.
Mourning in the animal world
There is plenty of evidence that dogs mourn the loss of loved ones. One 2022 study conducted by researchers at the University of Milan interviewed 426 people who had at least two dogs, one of which had died, and asked about any behavioral changes in their surviving pet.
The results found that nearly the 90% of dogs that they had suffered the loss of a fellow they showed negative behaviors in the following months, including having less desire to play, being more fearful and seeking more attention.
When it comes to supporting your pet through the grieving process, Jessica suggests that but their space and of course they will approach a new way of life, making sure of course to offer them everything they need.
