L’account Facebook I Love Veterinary Medicine posts regular updates on surgeries performed by vets.

In a post written on Nov. 27, the veterinary team indicated that they had received a 7-year-old female Shih Tzu who was suffering from hematuria at the clinic.

A great pain

Hematuria is the presence of blood, or more precisely red blood cells (erythrocytes), in the urine.

The poor dog had terrible urinary tract infections and he must surely have been in excruciating pain.

On the veterinary tests that accompany the message posted on Facebook, we can concretely see the origin of the poor dog’s suffering.

160 masses in the stomach

On the X-ray we see that the hematuria has formed real masses in the bladder. There are so many that they almost completely fill his bladder.

We also see the photo of the red blood cells once the dog was operated on, and the vet indicated that he found 160.

However, that’s not all the little Shih Tzu has gone through! Because an E. coli bacteria infection is also detected. The combination of a bladder infection and the massive amount of struvite stones must have been incredibly painful for the animal.

Luckily, the vet was able to remove all the stones and the dog was able to go back to one normal life.
