Puppies treated like soft toys: ENPA raises the alarm

Animals are sentient beings. The question has been presented several times in Parliament. He’s heard about it several times on TV all over the world, yet there are still those who don’t have the thing clear in mind and think well that give a dog or cat for Christmas that’s a good idea.

There’s no doubt, it’s good for the animal, but will it be permanent? Is the person to whom you are about to give the puppy aware of what taking care of a living being entails?

Wrong choices

To explain it is Giusy D’Angelocouncilor of the National Animal Protection Body (ENPA extension) and expert dog lover a Fanpage.it:

«I don’t want to believe that the little dog is still seen today as a toy but I believe that everything is lived with superficiality, not all the consequences of having an animal are evaluated. I think it’s a cultural problem.”

The problem is that the choice, if not made with awareness, can lead to a new kennel entry after a short time, giving the animal a traumatic experience again. Adopt yes, but with conscience!

The problem of farms

The other side of the coin is that of buying purebred puppies during the holiday season: the growth in demand bring certain “breeders” (if they can be defined as such, because true professionals primarily deal with animal welfare and not with their collection, as we saw in our interview with breeder Gianandrea Fasan) to “increase the production” of puppies to the detriment of the parents’ health.

«It is important to understand, for example, how the mares and stallions of the farm live. We need to worry about the well-being of these animals which are still used for reproduction, we need to ask the breeders what happens to the parents of the puppy », explains the ENPA expert to Fanpage.it.

Christmas then, explains Dr. D’Angelo, It’s not the ideal time to bond with a new adoptee: given that we often tend to leave the house to go to friends and relatives for the holidays, the dog or cat is left alone in the house and this does not even help to impart the right education. This is exactly where the problems start that lead the “unaware” owners to bring the animal back.
