He wanders in the fields sowing fear in the village, but a woman approaches him

Mistaken for a wolf, he was feared by the villagers. Eventually they realized it was a dog, a beautiful Akita-type pet. Mrs. Maria, one of the villagers, fed him for several weeks.

Employees of Gaj’s Animal Shelter Foundation repeatedly tried to catch him, which was not easy, as the dog was half wild. Eventually they succeeded.

Learn to trust

At the beginning, Hatori had difficulty fitting into the shelter. She was afraid of people and avoided all contact, even eye contact.

However, the Foundation’s staff did not give up. While they knew the task wasn’t going to be easy, they also knew that every animal was worth fighting for.

Grzegorz Kałużny, un animal behaviorist, started working on dog behavior. From day one he realized that the animal was not aggressive, just panicked and scared of people.

“Dogs are social creatures. However, for Hatori it is more complicated. We don’t know if he was abandoned or if he escaped alone. It is known that he preferred to avoid people because he did not have a good relationship with them. He may have been hurt by someone and he thought all human beings wanted to hurt him. However, we didn’t want him to be deprived of far part of a group, as that would have pretty much destroyed his chances of being adopted. So we had to convince him that people can be nice. There trust is easy to losebut very difficult to reconstruct,” said the specialist a Gazeta Wyborcza.

Hatori was slowly making progress. Every day she began to trust the staff of the shelter more and more. When she started going out for walks, the foundation decided it was time to start look for a house for the dog.

Love at first sight

And that’s how Susanna Yap and her boyfriend, Marius Twardowskiego, met Hatori. They already had a dog and six cats home, so they were unlikely to consider another adoption. But when they saw Hatori, it was love at first sight!

However, the adoption process was not that easy. The dog was distant and suspicious. Marius went to the shelter for over a month to convince the animal.

Eventually he was able to walk him around and take him home for his first night. Despite a moderate success of this first night, as the dog is not exactly a fan of cats, the couple has decided to welcome him permanently.

Everyone has the right to a home

Today Hatori sleeps on the sofa in a house full of animals. She also spent her very first beach vacation.

Hatori’s story is proof that everyone is capable of change and love, if only they are shown how to love.
