When Kristen Harper he decided to adopt his first pet, he knew it had to be unique.
The woman, however, was not looking for perfect features, an important pedigree or a beautiful face. She just wanted to take care of a dog in need of help.
Victim of pseudo-breeding
Krysten’s sister was involved in the search, and she managed to find the right dog. Little Buddy it was though deaf, blind e genetically imperfect.
All because of the greed of pseudo-breeders that put the animal’s health at risk to get the perfect blend of the coveted Merle color.
The Double Merle Dog Problem
Il cape merle, also called marbled, is characterized by mottled patches on a uniform background of black, brown or red coat. Dogs with this coat color often have blue or heterochromatic eyes, which makes them even more unique.
However, the coupling of two dogs with the merle gene often causes offspring with genetic defects: the puppies of such a litter, defined double merle, are born with visual and auditory defects.
As if that weren’t enough, Little Buddy had developed arthritis and muscle wasting from being kept in tight spaces for about 2 years.
“The beginnings were not easy. Little Buddy was sick and distrustful. He slept in corners and got into tight spaces where he felt safe. He was crying and I was crying too, ”confessed Krysten a The Animal Rescue Site.
Time heals wounds
Fortunately, Little Buddy always became more sociable as the days go by. When Krysten moved into an apartment, she felt ready to adopt another dog.
Then he met Aster Rose, who looked like the puppy version of Little Buddy. She too was deaf and blind, all due to irresponsible breeders. She was taken to a vet to be put down, but luckily the doctor saved her life.
A happy family
“There is a myth that blind and deaf dogs cannot have a good life and people feel sorry for them. I understand this to some extent, but having lived with blind and deaf dogs for three years, I know they can lead extraordinary lives, ”said Krysten.
Now Aster Rose, Little Buddy, Krysten and his two cats, Teddy and Goose, are one big happy family. Dogs love each other very much and are best friends. And it’s all thanks to Krysten, who never doubted that love and care can work wonders.
