The cat mayor of Civita D’Antino is called Miao and will remain in office for one year.

Civita D’Antino, L’Aquila. From 12 October 2022 the small town in Abruzzo can boast of a very special “mayor”.
The deputy mayor of Civita D’Antino has assigned the authoritative task of “Mayor of the Animals” a Miaoa very sweet cat with a black and white coat and an elegant appearance, well known among the residents.

According to reports from local newspapers, her little human friend would be there daughter of the deputy mayor by Civita D’Antino Matteo Di Fabio.
Although Miao has a family, the entire Abruzzo village, defined as one of the most beautiful in Italy, is her home. Everyone welcomes her with joy when they see her wandering around the street.
Being a symbol of the municipalitythe deputy mayor proposed the candidacy of the cat, gathering favorable opinions also from the current mayor Sara Cicchinelli.
Even the institutional page of the Municipality of Civita D’Antino jokingly spread the news, announcing its “before SindaCAT”.
Miao will remain “in office” for a year and then the relay race will be held in which each animal can participate, subject to nomination and votes obtained.
The meaning of the mayor cat
The initiative wanted above all to show the sensitivity of the country to animal rights issues, but also to reward the inhabitants who stand out for their respect for animals and the attention given to them.
It is not the first time that a cat mayor has been appointed in Italy. Even the municipality in the province of Pavia, Gravellona Lomellina, has adopted the cat Marina as a real mascot, complete with a tricolor band and presence at official events!
