Portrait and landscape: 1st place – The avalanche rescuedog by Dalia Fichmann

The photo The rescuer in the avalanches portrays Dalia Fichmann’s Border Collie Kyron who was looking for his human among the thick blanket of snow.

Dalia Fichmann tells how her photo was taken:

“To capture the moment when the dog finds the buried person and digs in the snow, I lay down with my camera in a small dark ice cave and let the dogs search for me. The moment when the snowpack opens, the first ray of light enters the cave, the paws dig into the snow and the dog’s nose sniffs your way is wonderful.”
