Felines are particularly clean animals and the hygiene of their litter box is of paramount importance to them. For this reason it is necessary to clean it regularly: cats can avoid doing their needs if they cannot find a properly clean place to do it.

There are several on the market cat litter accessories: scoops to collect excrement by filtering the litter, bags that adapt to the litter box, deodorizers to prevent bad odors from spreading in the room, and lids for closed litter boxes. You are spoiled for choice!

Are you about to adopt your first kitten? Give him the welcome he deserves with a clean litter box. This way, he will quickly understand that this is where he needs to do his business. We have put together a brief summary of the essential accessories to buy to take care of your little friend.

Why buy cat litter accessories?

The purchase of accessories for the cat’s litter box allows you to keep your cat’s private space clean and fragrant thanks to shovels, bags, etc. Make your life easier by choosing easy to use cleaning products.

These accessories are ergonomically designed to provide maximum comfort for your cat. You can use them to deep clean the litter box, for example, or to pick up new droppings every day.

These are accessories that are easy to maintain, are very resistant and do not get damaged even after many uses.

How to keep the cat litter box clean?

The cat litter box should be cleaned every day. Cats are very clean animals and the hygiene of their toilet is particularly important to them: they are able to refrain from urinating or defecating if they feel their litter box is too dirty. This can lead to serious health problems (urinary tract infection, kidney problems, etc.).

Feces and urine accumulations should be removed at least once a day. The whole litter should be changed every week, even if some parts have not been soiled. Take the opportunity to clean and disinfect the bottom of the box with soapy water and detergent. Dry well with a microfibre cloth before putting the new sandbox back on!

What are the different types of litter box accessories?

There is a wide variety of cat litter accessories. One of the most important is the small scoop to collect excrement which allows you to remove the dirty litter while leaving the dry part intact. This is not only a good solution to save on litter, but also to prevent odors from spreading throughout the room.

Litter bags are a great way to clean up the litter box in no time. They work like garbage bags and you can simply close them to remove the entirety of the dirty litter.

There are also litter box deodorizers available that are very effective at removing all unpleasant odors.
Charcoal filters are also available if your cat does its business in a closed toilet.

How to prevent your cat from spreading litter everywhere?

Cats love to dig up their litter boxes after they’ve done their business to hide their droppings and release their hormones into the atmosphere. The problem is that these little habits, so appreciated by felines, are much less appreciated by their owners.

Cats spread their litter around the box and it is common to find litter around the house as it also gets caught in the fur and paw pads. Since there is nothing more unpleasant than walking barefoot on gravel, there are several solutions to this problem!

Choose a non-slip mat, which can be placed right in front of the litter box outlet. Its specially designed little prongs will clean all the bits of gravel stuck between the claws.

You can also place your cat’s litter box on a soft, grippy mat under the paw pads, which will catch any litter box debris. The most effective solution to preventing litter pellets from being found all over the house is an enclosed litter box. When your cat digs, the pellets will land on the wall and fall back into the box.

How to reduce unpleasant odors?

To effectively reduce odors in your cat’s litter box, you can use the sodium bicarbonate. Put it on the bottom of the litter box after cleaning it well. Then pour in the sand litter. You will soon notice the difference! Urine will be absorbed better and there will be much less unpleasant odor.

White vinegar is also used to combat bad smells. When cleaning the litter box, use a cloth dipped in white vinegar. This solution permanently neutralizes all unpleasant odors!

You can even choose one fully enclosed litter box with a swing door that allows cats to get in and out easily. This is the ideal solution to prevent odors from spreading throughout the room.
