A kitten rescued in extremis from a storm drain awaits its owners at the shelter

The kittens pass through the protective grids provided to avoid the worst for the animals. Once again, a poor little being has chosen to take refuge in a sewer inaccessible to men and dangerous for him. Fortunately, a municipal employee did what was necessary to get him out of his trap.

Tuesday, August 23, a female kitten, subsequently named Maefell more than a meter into a storm drain in the city of Prince Albert au Canada. She then headed into a 2 meter deep drain.

Neighbors detected his cries of distress, but were unable to help him. They therefore contacted the local association SPCA.

“Honestly, it was lucky someone heard it. It must be said that she was crying very hard for a baby! So it resonated all along the pipes”has explained Ashlee Boberdirector of the SPCAat Ccom.

The volunteers initially tried to attract the unfortunate woman with a well-filled bowl placed in a transport crate, in vain. Time was running out. It had been more or less 24 hours since Mae was trapped. And a kitten of this age alone in such an environment does not have a very long life expectancy.

The rescue team therefore called on a municipal agent to come and lend a hand.

A safe rescue

Before venturing into a cramped storm sewer, a few precautions should be taken. The man therefore checked that the drain was not invaded by toxic gas, then put on a safety harness and abseiled.

However, Mae was terrified and still refused to point the tip of her nose. The officer therefore had to be patient.

He spoke softly to her and lured her with a treat for 20 minutes before she decided to come to him.

Mae was then reassembled without incident and fortunately, she did not suffer from any ailment. She was transferred to the shelter which now takes care of her. If her masters do not show up in the next few days, she will be offered for adoption.
