Small dogs live longer than large ones, but the maximum life expectancy, depending on the breed, never actually exceeds 16 years.

However, the dog we’re telling you about today has far exceeded this threshold, and it’s not even particularly small!

Bobi, the oldest dog is over 30 years old

According to his master, Bobi is a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, a large herding and guard dog from Portugal, whose average life expectancy typically does not exceed 14 years.

However, Bobi was born on May 11, 1992 and therefore has more than double the age of an average dog. To be precise, Bobi has his back well 30 years and 269 days!

This remarkable age has even been confirmed by an official body in Portugal, where all dogs must be registered with a microchip number in the animal database SIAC.

Oldest dog ever

That’s why Bobi has now been awarded two awards from the Guinness Book of Records:

  1. the oldest living dog
  2. the oldest dog of all time!

With this success, Bobi also dethroned record holder Bluey, the Australian Cattle Dog who was 29 years and 5 months old. Bobi’s owner explained to the Guinness World Record:

«Bobi is something special, when you look at him you remember the people who were part of our family and unfortunately are no longer there like my father, my brother or my grandparents. Bobi represents these generations».
