45 cats rescued from unsanitary home after owner hospitalized

The organization Townsville Foster et Rehoming Animalslocated in the Queensland in Australiawas called to the rescue by a maintenance worker dispatched to a house in the region.

Indeed, the man was responsible for putting a house in order after its owner was hospitalized for an indefinite period. Upon his arrival, he quickly understood that he could not carry out his mission.

In addition to being in an extremely unsanitary state, the house was occupied by no less than 45 felines.

The poor beasts lived among their excrement. Besides, they suffered terribly from hunger.

An extraordinary rescue

The volunteers of the association moved with transport boxes to take the tomcats to the shelter.

“The whole situation was dire. If you leave 45 cats in a house with no one to take care of them, you will quickly find yourself in a giant litter box”said Angela Atkinsonthe director, ABC News.

Despite their best efforts, some specimens are still on the scene, because they are not socialized and therefore do not allow themselves to be approached.

The others, on the other hand, benefited from care by the veterinarian Rilie Baker.

“Among those we were able to manage, there were a few who unfortunately suffered from quite serious dental disease. Others had long-term health issues, but for the most part, fortunately, they were relatively fit”she clarified.

After investigation, the members of the organization understood that the owner of the house had wanted to do good by welcoming stray cats, but that he had allowed himself to be overwhelmed by the situation.

Many tomcats were sterilized, but others were proliferating at high speed. “Even though most of them were very well cared for and in fairly good health, 45 cats in the area they were in is far too many animals for them to have healthy social connections and a life without. stress “has explained Angela.

The tomcats will be offered for adoption as soon as their health check is issued. The rescuers continue their mission with the fifteen felines still on site.
