How to make a homemade dog cake?

1. Adjust the aspect ratio

First, you need to adjust the aspect ratio to the size of the animal.

Since the cake is reserved for your four-legged animal, it will not be necessary to use a container with a diameter of 24/30 cm. You can opt more simply for a diameter of about 10/12 centimeters or you can use some cupcake moldsso that each dog has its own treat, in case you have more than one.

It is well known that there are quite a few dogs possessive of food, so it is always better to avoid problems than to see them fight over eating a bigger cake together.

2. Choose carefully the foods Fido can eat

Secondly, it’s good choose the ingredients carefully of your cake. The 3 recipes below all contain foods that can be eaten by dogs but, it is always good to remember, that they must be given in moderation.

Furthermore, dogs are easily subject to intolerances and allergies. Before adding new ingredients to your cake dough, try to let him taste them to check that the dog does not show some kind of ailment.

Recipe #1: Savory Dog Cake with Chicken and Carrots

For a savory pie, the basic ingredients are carrots, rich in vitamins and from the properties antioxidants, and oats, a great source of carbohydrates slow digesting and fibre which provide a lot of energy in the long term, without causing insulin peaks.

Ingredients

  • 6 tablespoons of rice flour;
  • 1 tablespoon of baking powder;
  • 2 tablespoons of oats;
  • 2 eggs;
  • 300 grams of minced chicken;
  • 3 grated carrots;
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil;
  • Half a glass of water.

Preparation

First of all, preheat the oven to 180 degrees.

Mix then, the flour, oats and eggs in a salad bowl.

Add then the rest of the ingredients and mix everything until you get a soft dough.

At this point pour the mixture into the moulds, or in a single mold and bake. Based on the mold you have chosen, check the cooking.

  • If you have opted for cupcake molds, cook for about 15/20 minutes.
  • If, on the other hand, you have chosen a single mould, check the cooking after 30/40 minutes.

Once ready, the dog cake can be left to cool at room temperature.

Recipe #2: Birthday cake for dogs with yogurt

For this delicious recipe, the basic ingredients are peaches and yogurt.

Peaches are rich in vitamins and very useful against constipation, so don’t hesitate to offer them to your pet. They can obviously be replaced by other fruits such as strawberries, apples and bananas.

The second ingredient is Greek yogurt, perfect for keeping your stomach strong and healthy intestinal flora of the dog.

Ingredients

  • 100 grams of blended peaches with peel;
  • 1 egg;
  • 1 tablespoon of Greek yogurt;
  • 3 tablespoons of wholemeal flour;
  • 1 tablespoon of 00 flour;
  • 2 tablespoons of honey (if the dog is diabetic, opt for pureed apples);
  • 1 tablespoon of oil;
  • 1 tablespoon of baking powder.

For decoration

  • 1 yogurt greco;
  • Precooked beetroot juice;
  • 2 teaspoons of potato starch.

Preparation

Start by preheating the oven to 180 degrees.

Then, in a salad bowl, mix the egg with the yoghurt and fruit.

Add the flour and baking powder and mix everything trying to do not make lumps.

At this point you can add the grated lemon zest and the oil. Knead the dough until it is smooth and creamy.

Pour the mixture into the chosen mold e bake in a preheated oven for about 15/20 minutes.

Once baked, allow the dog cake to cool to room temperature.

In the meantime, make the icing. In a bowl put the yoghurt, the beetroot juice and two teaspoons of starch. Mix everything until you get a soft and creamy cream. So decorate your dog cake and don’t hesitate to give it to your dog!

Recipe #3: No-Bake Dog Cake with Liver and Fruit

For this last recipe, let your four-legged friend try new flavours mixing sweet and salty.

The choice of ingredients can be modified according to the needs of the animal. Don’t hesitate to replace the liver with beef or chicken.

Ingredients

  • 40 grams of basmati rice;
  • 2 tablespoons of fresh ricotta;
  • 50 grams of cooked vegetables (carrots, courgettes…);
  • 50 grams of cooked liver (veal, beef, chicken, rabbit);
  • Fresh seasonal fruit (strawberries, apples, pears, bananas).

Preparation

Cook the rice in salted water, being careful to rinse it firstto remove all the starch.

Subsequently, blend the meat with the ricotta and a small glass of water to form a cream.

Cut the fruit and deprive it of any seeds and stems.

At this point, it will be enough to assemble all the elements. In a salad bowl, mix the rice with the vegetables and a spoonful of liver cream. Then pour the mixture into the mold and leave rest in the fridge for about an hour.

Once solidified, decant the dog cake into a larger dish and spread the remaining liver cream on top. You can also make one if you want tiered cake.

Finally, decorate your cold dog cake with delicious fresh fruit. Your dog will go crazy for it!

Always remember that by no means does dog cake have to replace a lunch or dinner balanced.
